Mali announces new gov't 5 months after coup

(AP) ? Malian state television says the country has formed a new government five months after a military coup.

Mali's interim leaders already had missed a deadline to form a government earlier this month that was imposed by regional leaders trying to resolve the country's political crisis.

State television announced late Monday that the new government has 31 ministers, including five who are close to coup leader Capt. Amadou Sanogo.

Mali was plunged into crisis when Sanogo and other soldiers overthrew the country's democratically elected president in March.

Amid the power vacuum, radical Islamists have seized control of the northern half of Mali ? an area the size of France.
