Home resembles manor straight out of Disneyland

2270 Cross St, La Canada Flintridge CA
Sale pending: $1.449 million

Mickey Mouse doesn't live here, and there's no storybook ride within the gables, but for all intents and purposes this La Canada Flintridge home looks straight out of the Disneyland park.

There's a reason the California home resembles the happiest place on earth. Robert F. McDonnell, one of the chief designers for Disney and the designer of Disneyland, Disney World and Tokyo Disney, redesigned the home himself to resemble the theme parks.

The original home, a Spanish-style estate built in 1937, provided the canvas for McDonnell, says real estate agent Sean Santarsiero of Podley Properties.

"In the late 1980s and 1990s he ended up building the home into the Disney castle it is now," Santarsiero said. "If you go to Disneyland right after [seeing the home], you'll see remnants of the house in Disneyland?? the doors, the spires, the windows."

McDonnell also put a little of himself into the home, such as detailed carvings and a family crest captured in stained glass. According to public records, he sold the home in 2001 for $930,000, and the current owners kept many of McDonnell's details.

"Every time I show the home to a new client, I see something," Santarsiero?said.

Sitting on a quarter-acre lot, the 3,730-square-foot home has 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths.
